Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow

This is really good, similar and yet different then East by Edith Pattou. I just love fairy tale retellings, I eat them for breakfast. I love the story of Beauty and the Beast, and the East of the Sun, West of the Moon is so similar that I can't help but love it as well. Thank you, Jessica Day George, for your own creation of this story.

The Strongbow Saga: The Road to Vengeance

I got to read this as an ARC. Advanced Readers Copy, for those of you who don't know what that means.
Strongbow
I'm not sure if I can give a completely fair review of this book, since I haven't read the prequels
to it. That being said, I will begin my review.

This book started like it was continuing where the last book ended. This made things confusing and awkward, since I didn't know what was going on for about 50 pages. I forced myself to keep reading, and by page 50 things started to be explained. But not perfectly.

This book is set in the middle of a Viking raid on Frankia, A.D 845. What was helpful to this book was the character list and glossary in the back of the book. Without it, I probably would have been lost even more then I was. Halfdan, the protagonist, is seeking revenge for the murder of his half-brother. Gathering from this book, I'm guessing honor and vengeances was important to the Vikings.

There is a romance, or I think so. It was kind of rushed, and not detailed enough, and the conclusion was unsatisfying. But seeing as this book ended like there is going to be another book, hopefully this will be written better in the future.

Another things is, and again I didn't read the first two books so this might be why, but I didn't feel very connected with the characters. I didn't really know Halfdan.

So, my advice to you would be to read the prequels first, you might have a better experience than I did. It was a good tale, with potential

Deer and Camera stuff.

The deer are reappearing again. For a while we weren't seeing them, but yesterday we saw some. My dog must have been chasing them away before, but they are getting brave again. The picture on the left is cropped so you can see th deer better. I only wish I had a zoom lens that got that close. I have a lens for another brand of film camera from my grandpa, but I don't know if it will work with my new camera. It needs to be clean, too. Wow, I didn't plan on writing all that. Oh well.

A Glimpse at Eclipse (Hee)

(Note: There is a lot of diversion in opinions on this series. Please be nice and positive in commenting.)

Eclipse - Twilight Saga - Book 3
Stephenie Meyer

The third book in the intriguing saga about a young girl's love with a vampire.

My whole Twilight experience has been on the warm side. I like them, but they aren't my favorite. I know some who would agree.

I can't talk about this book with mentioning some spoilers. So Twilight ignorant people, shoo. Now. You were warned.
(highlight to read the rest)

So New Moon left us where Bella had just saved Edward from the Volturi, then getting grounded for running off to Italy. Huh huh, that's sounds so funny.

Now, in Eclipse we follow Bella through her last few weeks before graduation and her determination to become immortal(aka a vampire). Meanwhile, Edward is trying to talk her out of that. I've never been partial to that idea. I think Bella should stay human. That's not saying that I want her to be with Jake instead, because I don't know which one I like better. Still.

They both have good and bad qualities. I will, on a sudden whim, talk about each of them from my point of view.

Edward - the super-man vampire. He is really much nicer in Eclipse. In Twilight, he was annoying with his mood swings happening all the time. In this book, his control is much perfected. Which makes me realize that is what good character development should show. He was also very, and almost too kind towards Jacob, his rival as it were. Overall, he's the tall hat gentlemen in the story.

Jacob - the boyish werewolf. He also had better control of himself in this book. In New Moon, I didn't like how angry he was all the time. Kind had a Harry Potter moment there. ;) But now he's almost as nice as Edward, in his own way. He's kind of the charismatic poor boy, boy next door guy.

So, I thought the love in this book was fairly realistic (as realistic as you can get with vampires and werewolves that is. ;) ) Stephenie didn't trying to make it easy for Bella to choose. There wasn't any revealing of their "true character". They were both really nice guys and Bella liked both of them. Showing that love isn't a one time only deal. You can choose who you love, and it's not always going to make everyone happy at once. But maybe someday. I think I'm rambling.

Anyways, I'm also glad that this book wrapped up on a plot line. The finale of Victoria and her persistent revenge. It would nice to have Bella get a new enemy or just a new adventure in general.

Something else I didn't get was about Bella and her "love" stuff. First, she tries to get Edward to, er, you know and then he does want to and then . . . she didn't want to. Now I don't mind that she didn't want to, I think she was being very dumb on that point. But what made her change her mind? Random. Anyways, my brain is out of info, so I'll stop for now. There's other things I was thinking about, but I'll spare you, I guess.

Overall, I think this might have been the better novel in the series.

Obviousness

Well, it's probably pretty clear to you all that I got bored with my old look and name of my blog. I made a new blog title banner in Adobe for a change.

Photography

Today I got my first digital camera. It's a Canon Rebel XT, and it shoots great. I also went to a class today to learn how to use it at the community college. I knew a little bit, but now I'm going to learn lots more about the process. My goals are finally coming forward for me, it's a happy and relieving feeling.

A Poem For Me

I want to stay a girl,
I want to stay small,
I want to make believe
and to spin and swirl.

I don't want to grow up,
I don't want to care about stupid things,
I just want to be me
and live from day to day.

I wish I was a story,
I wish stories were true,
I wish it was all as simple
as author's say they do.

But I know there's a hand to guide me,
and He watches from above,
and I know that He will catch me
every time I fall.

So Happy Birthday to me,
don't cry a tear,
you can be a girl
for just another year.

Hummingphotos!

Look it! I had to get really close and hold really still for the first two pictures. The third I took laying underneath the feeder. They are really fast, so these or some of the best ones that I got. The species is a Rufus Hummingbird. They are very colorful and tiny.
