Stepping Out of the Little Green Box: "P" for Program Mode

Program mode on my brother's point and shoot.
I'm kicking this series off with the next best thing to AUTO mode.  It's called P, or Program Mode.  I have a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) camera, but most people have a point and shoot, so I'll try to showing you what to do on the most common of cameras.  You'll find P mode in your camera's menu, or if you have a camera with a wheel on top, you might find it there.

So what is so great about Program, you ask?  Well let me tell you what this feature does.  Like the AUTO mode, it controls things like F-stops, shutter speeds (In other words, how your camera takes in light).  But in Program mode, you can control ISO, and White Balance.

Wait, wait, wait, White Balance and what?  Okay, come sit yourself down and I'll tell you a story about a man named Jed, er, White Balance.

Now The Parties Over, But Don't Abandon Ship Just Yet

I don't know how many have been following my 365 photo challenge, but it is finito!  So does that mean the end of my blog? Nah.  I'll still be around, here are a few things you might be seeing in the near future.

  • Instead of a daily photo, I hope to bring you the best photos of the week, month.  Anyway you look at it, there will be photos.
  • Do you ever wonder what all those functions are for on your camera?  I've come across many people who don't know how to use their cameras beyond AUTO.  Thus I will be debuting "Stepping out of the Little Green Box".  Each post will focus on one feature, so you can learn without getting data overload.  I'll keep it interesting and short, because let's face it. In this day and age, we want out information short and sweet.
Do you have any suggestions, questions?  Put a comment down below and I'll answer you.

HIghlights of Yesteryear

As we crossover into a new year, it is customary to take some time to reflect back on all the triumph of the read we just left behind.  So without much more adieu, let's get to the part where I showcase the best of my year in photography.  Technically I reached day 365 on Saturday, New Year's Ee.  But since I missed a few days here and there, I'll be continuing on until I reach 365.  But since 2011 is now over, I'll present a slideshow of the best of my 2011 photos down below:

And for all you book people, here are my five favorites the I read this year.

The community of Godspeed frustrated me, but that was the point. I won't reveal what time I went to be last night, but it was late before I made myself put this book down. Then I picked it up this morning to finish the last few pages. Tw...
